comment What is the standard editorial timeline for genre fiction novels?
Feel free to contact the publisher, there is no shame in it. The "normal timeline" is probably defined in your contract. Have you read it?

revised When should modifiers be avoided?
Thanks guys, for cleaning up, but dashes are no hyphens. And for real dashes: either n with space or m without.

comment What are good examples of backstory in natural dialogue?
Read books. Seriously, every novel out there is doing it one way or the other. If you can make this question more specific, like providing a sample dialog and tell us what info you wanted to convey, we can better help you.

There are several diff tools out there showing two files next to each other and scroll down both files simultaneously. They are made for comparison, but can be used for your purpose also. If you also need spell checking they may not be the best option.

comment Plain translation or cultural adaptation?
You can get that interest if you show that your novel works in Spanish (works = sells).

comment Plain translation or cultural adaptation?
I wouldn't spend a second thinking about translation when I haven't published it in my native tongue yet. What would be the point?

comment Is it good to publish a novel online for free?
Is your concern publishing online or is it publishing for free? Sounds like a rather broad question in both cases so. Could you specify what troubles you?

comment Where should I go with this short story?
Hi, @lwayt, I am afraid that this is not how this site works. Let me explain: We are not a discussion forum. We are a question and answer site. To make it valuable for other users, too, the questions should be specific, but not too narrow. The main problem here is: You have several questions in this post. The idea is: One post -> one question (if it's not an answer for sure. There can be several answers per question). Best would be you split your question and only show that part of your story which is necessary to get your point. Keep the question short, so people read and answer it.
