comment Do Novels follow a 3 Act/2 Plot Point structure like most Movie Scripts?
I see, @Nathan. I thought it was obvious that I refer to the 3 Act structure. No need to apologise, btw. You are talking to someone who offends people on purpose (even if I did not do it here).

@sjohnston: I agree with you except for the last sentence. I bet nobody thought that was possible for marketing either, till Seth did it.

+1 Many bestseller authors never sold their first novel.

You're welcome, @MGOwen :) But translating it was easy. The main work did Andreas Eschbach.

@Jeff: I hope you are aware, that editing is only finished, when you do not know what else to remove, not when you do not know what else to add.

comment What should be in a cover letter for short story submission to a magazine?
@Ash: Really? What's that good for? If your short stories only has two or three pages, I could understand it. For longer stories they skip an opportunity to filter the submissions.

@justkt: I had to read them to do that. It's a one minute Google search result. And in the meantime you've already fleshed out one :)

+1 for your last paragraph. I do not know, if your bullet list has something to do with this question. I'm still figuring that out ...

Honestly I have no idea what you are asking. Could you elaborate more, or show with an example what you mean? I know genre types like science-fiction and horror. If you read a lot of science-fiction, you already know, how to identify it. If you do not read horror, you do not need to identify it, because you will never be a good horror writer anyway. I have no idea what scene-level types should are?
