Organizing your Universe? WikidPad (wikidpad.sourceforge.net) is an open source, cross platform wiki that runs as a desktop app. It stores its data in flat files, so you can back everything up easily. |

What tools are available for world building? @Craig: Creativity is great! But (assuming that your end goal is to have told a story) you're applying it to the wrong end of the problem. Focus that "why" instinct on your characters. Why do the do the things they do? Why do they want the things they want? Stories aren't about worlds, they're about people. |

What tools are available for world building? @Craig: Perhaps, but placing your characters doesn't require the depth of thought that "world-building" implies. Say you want to tell a story about characters who live on a world where it's always winter. All you need to know to place your characters is that it's always winter. You don't need to figure out WHY until you reach a point in telling the story where the WHY affects the plot. |

Is touch typing skill important for being a good writer? It does add substance to the discussion, in that it reminds the OP that writing is about the story, not about the mechanics of how you created it. |

What's Essential In A Combat Scene? I was going to say that the key to good fight scenes is that they are less about how to fight and more about what it feels like to fight. But you said it better! |
