I have a degree in Linguistics, but I work as a programmer. Most of my expertise about English is self-taught, plus lots of random trivia I've acquired here and there.

This is my favorite EL&U comment ever:

This isn't really a question about English so much as a question about hugs. Source

comment Unpunctuation: bug or feature?
The em-dash thing is standard in several European languages. Was the book translated? Or was she deliberately aping that style?

comment How can I effectively invent a language?
This would be off-topic at Linguistics.SE. However, it would be on-topic for the forthcoming Conlang.SE.

comment I have compiled a poetry book with poems of 4chan users. It has a lot of racial slurs and vulgarisms, is it possible to publish something like that?
You could put them up as a 99-cent ebook. I think you'd sell a decent number of copies that way.

In any case, I think that public speaking is generally off-topic for this site.

comment First person with co-authors?
I agree that "we" is standard in these sorts of contexts, and it doesn't sound weird to me at all.

comment What to do if I can't meet my chapter word count?
My personal experience: I originally outlined my current WIP into 30 chapters, to which I allotted 3,000 words apiece, giving me a total of 90K. But in reality, the chapters came out everywhere from 1,500 to 6,000 words, and that's fine. Give each chapter as much or as little space as it needs.
