I have a degree in Linguistics, but I work as a programmer. Most of my expertise about English is self-taught, plus lots of random trivia I've acquired here and there.

This is my favorite EL&U comment ever:

This isn't really a question about English so much as a question about hugs. Source

comment What genre is my writing?
Don't do this. Agents and publishers want to have an idea of what your genre is in your query letter, and you don't get to make up a new genre of your own. I've heard this from multiple agents.

comment Can I self-publish, and how much would it cost?
+1. The real sticking point is getting into the big booksellers, since they pretty much categorically refuse to deal with self-publishers, and without them your chances of breaking even on any investment is very slim.

comment How to overcome the fact that I can't write?
@Jakub: Sure, some people are more talented than others. But talent is just a baseline, with very little predictive ability either way.

comment When to accept an editor's rewrite request?
Note that this question is somewhat hypothetical, since I've already agreed to make the requested changes. But I'd like to see whether the question is considered on-topic, and of course what the community thinks.

I just want to add that I don't think there's anyone that just can't write. Writing is a learned skill, not a magical gift bestowed from on high.

comment Pros and cons of using perspectives?
I also think this is a little too broad. This Q would be better if it were a specific question about a specific voice.
