Podcasts useful for improving writing skills @John Smithers thanks. Did not know askers can't CW their own questions anymore. |

When editing for a person, how much can be changed? Perhaps it's best to tackle this by calling them reviewers, and pointing out that they're not editors. |

For Fantasy Stories, Should You Include a Map At the Beginning of the Book? I guess the real question is: can a map ever hurt? As long as it looks "good", I'm going to say no, even if it adds little to the readers understanding of the world/story. |

For Fantasy Stories, Should You Include a Map At the Beginning of the Book? Extra thought on this - consider simplifying indecipherable names! A city called Ku probably sounds just as exotic as one called Kuquatl'ixh |

What should step one in writing a novel be? Lets get step zero out of the way: love reading (and do it a lot). That one usually goes without saying, but it's still essential. |

What are the most appropriate types of degrees (or kinds of schooling) that a would-be successful writer should aim to obtain? +1 for any degree that isn't writing-related. Do courses and practice and read lots of books for the writing skills; study things that are interesting and make money at university. |

How to go about breaking up a looooong YA story? How much editing have you done? If there is anything that can be cut, (shorter sentences, more dense descriptions, unnecessary scenes, etc) it's possible you can get the word count down and also have better books. |

Is there a special software for writers? Can you elaborate on this answer a bit? (From your description, I thought it was just a barebones word processor. When it got upvotes, I checked the site and was surprised to discover it has writing features like "scene" organising). |

What is the requirement for a book to be a NYT Bestseller? The number of sales needed to get on it will vary of course, but someone said about 5000+ per week here: writers.stackexchange.com/questions/236/… |
