I'm having a little trouble understanding your question. Am I right in guessing that you want some general advice about writing poetry? If you have more specific questions, which would probably be easier to answer, please try to clarify what it is that you're having trouble with.

The last time I tried to [/geek], it caused a fatal error. :)

comment Which techniques can I use to become a better editor when editing my own writing?
Depending on what you're writing, a couple of months might not be feasible, but it is always a good idea to put some kind of distance between when you finish writing and when you start editing. If you've got a week to writer something, make sure you have time to finish writing you article, set it aside, and start editing the next day.

comment The Prophet: Part 1, Awakening .. Question about being “Too condensed”
Read about the first twenty pages of the story and I completely agree with Ernest. It seems like there's more exposition happening than actual story. I'm not learning about any of the concepts in the story before they become important. So instead of thinking "Wow, a garishka just appeared on that building!" I'm thinking "What the heck is a garishka? Oh, it's an evil dragonlike creature from the Jesse King novels. Is that weird? Well, this Moese guy seems remarkably calm about it, so I guess it's not."

comment How can I write an attention-grabbing first line?
Reading aloud can help develop the ear as well as the eye. If you're too shy or have very thin apartment walls, just try too really hear the words in your head, imagining how they would sound and what kind of inflection and rhythm would be used if they were spoken aloud.

comment How do I better handle my nameless main character when trying to retain mystery?
On a similar note, be wary of being mysterious just to be mysterious. If this man is a very mysterious and private person, to the point where you could have a conversation with him and never learn his name, then keeping him nameless may be the right thing for your story. However, if all the other characters in your story know the man's name, it's going to be tough to keep in concealed and you're not playing fair with your reader. It can take the reader out of the story if he or she feels like everyone in the story knows something, yet you the writer are jumping through hoops to hide it.

I like the idea of using some kind of title such as "the tall man" or "the man with the hat" or something along those lines. Just using "he" and "him" had the potential to cause all kinds of confusion if you introduce more male characters later on.
