I'm a computer technician and web developer that really likes to read and write and do it for fun mostly.

I just finished to write my first novel, but have also a few shorts and poetry works.

comment Is it possible to establish a relation between word count and page count?
Yes, I know that. It's just a matter or having an idea of the final size. I know how many words should I aim but, sometimes I like to have that in mind,

Ops, edited. I meant 400 words / page

You have a point, Laxaelle, dialogs mess pages a lot. Afaik, in latin countries word count are more used than character count but in the end it won't matter much because the problem will persist in case of dialogues. Maybe the only way is to have the novel word count limits in mind and ignore pages for sure.

It's nice to hear that ;-)

comment Short story becomes too intense to pack into a few pages
Yeap, I agree with Lauren. I didn't understand your doubt. Do you want to cut it to be a short novel or make it bigger? I must remember that, if you are planning to release it as an eBook, size won't matter at all.

You should check From short fiction to a novel

comment Is muteness appearing without explicit reason acceptable?
Being alone is traumatic enough, if he decided so. Each person reacts in different ways to the same psychological stimuli. That's why I suggest the book, sometimes such tools are great for writers

comment Is Sherlock Holmes public domain for use in a story?
I guess the law is not the same for every country but take a look in WHEN U.S. WORKS PASS INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.

Amazing! For $25 you can get the ISBN number and the image you're talking about. It's a theft

Ouch! $125??? Only the ISBN or it comprehends other costs? It costs somewhat like $6 in Brazil, from what I saw from current table.

comment How to make a intellectually disabled character believable?
I would say it's hard such characters tend to be too weak or too strong for what they are, and that's clichè.

comment Can Articy Draft be used to write a book?
Thanks. Writer's Cafè is also a great tool, and costs more or less the same as Scrivener. The downside is Scrivener has a nice and integrated system of managing the scenes and chapter texts, while Writer's Cafè uses an external editor. It's a matter of personal taste to choose one or the other, imo.

comment Writing an effective summary for a story
You know, I really liked the cover. I'm also a fan of minimalist, and use it when I write. I must confess I don't like electronic format. Paper rules for me. I'll try to read your shared content and, if I managed to do it from the pdf file, I pass trough amazon to buy a copy.

I think it should work like a teaser, yes. Imho, descriptions should not be used without that "expectation" I told you about, unless you are making it to somebody who won't buy your book (maybe a publisher). When aiming to your readers/buyers, you always should raise their interest, be a summary, teaser and spoiler.

As far as I understood, he is talking about that description added in the eBooks sites, to give more details about the book. Even not using the right terms, I think that's what he meant.

comment Publisher field in Book Review when the book is obtained for free from the internet
The book was clearly self published, so why don't you use the writer's name on publisher? And, btw, why are you bothering so much with that if the author himself didn't bothered to add his name in the manuscript? I wouldn't spend too much time on ti and use "Jonathan Swift self published".

This is really interesting. I always worked based on the temperament vs character dichotomy but this is surely worth some digging.

Indeed my main goal with that character is to be a letter to other characters. I don't want her to have goals, other than passing trough the events of the story. The only way for her to do that is to be helped, what will become one of the goals to others characters and some of them have background that would imply in a sense of duty to help a girl in distress. I could do it with a "normal" 12yo girl but that formula has been used a lot, and I really see that character as somebody with mental impairments. I'll check The Sound and the Fury. Thanks
