@SF - That's not what I'm talking about. Do you think anyone knows the Harry Potter universe more thoroughly than J.K. Rowling? Talented fan fic writers aside, only JKR knows exactly what her characters will do or say in a given situation. There are many talented fan fic writers who write within the spirit of canon, but that's a matter of style. A series' creator will always have the upper hand. FWIW, I'm a huge fan of fan fic and support fan fic writers. :)

@SF - It's disrespectful to assert that one knows a given series' universe better, more thoroughly, or at a higher level than the original canon author. That fan fic can be written in a more appealing way to some readers is a given. But the two are totally separate issues. :)
