Starting Out - Plot + Charaters by Documentaries @Standback Also I am at a difficult situation here that is common on all SE. I will submit a question that will get answered but get closed. The person answered some or all of the question(s)... I am not sure if I should fix the question ( in this case spliting the questions up ) and let it be re-opened for more answers since I got once answer, and I don't want to offend the person by making it seem like their answer wasn't enough? Also should I put the background information on a pastebin site as a permanent post and link it on all three sites becuase all of the background would be helpfull? |

Starting Out - Plot + Charaters by Documentaries @Standback thanks. Even with other SE sites I have been on for some bit of time, I am still getting used to following up to comments and editing and improving and making the full effort recomended to make the question have more points and more importantly, be more helpfull to others and to myself. |

Starting Out - Plot + Charaters by Documentaries As far as impatience, programming in low level languages has taught me some of that ( Writing a game engine in c++ with a graphics API and a multimedia library ) Why are you not an advocate of using sources as inspiration. Also, what do you mean that with short stories, "your thoughts will always get distracted to the "real" thing in your head?" And do you mean write down my own ideas first when you say "write it down"... As Bruce's Wayne's father told him, "Why do we fall? So we can pick ourselves back up." It will suck, and then suck and then suck less. But that's better than regression. |

Starting Out - Plot + Charaters by Documentaries Thanks... Yes, the second question was, "could I use the documentaries as inspiration..." A SE user said, "if your idea is really good, but you haven't written a novel yet, perhaps save the idea, write short stories, get good at writing, and then come back and use your good idea when you are more honed. Would you concur with this? This brings to what Question 3 Also, if I do follow this advice and write my first short story / novel, read the books, improve, will I be better at using the documentaries as inspiration. I am asking this because I don't a subpar story because I was impatient. |
