What are my headlines lacking? Thank you SF. I'm I'd love to know more about what you do and discuss writing a bit further if you're comfortable with that. I'm not sure if it's against forum rules to provide my email (or you could provide yours), but it's warrensvanrooyen@gmail.com |

What are my headlines lacking? Wow SF. Your answer was fantastic and thanks for such a bold response. Your example headlines you gave are excellent. I appreciate you advising that I make them more tongue-in-cheek but do you generally have a process you could share with me on making my headlines punchier? I mean, you wrote those up quickly and they were excellent. It takes me far too long to reach something like that. You'd be surprised how little there is on the web and it books the examples can often be outdated. I'd love to write headlines like yours all the time! |

Headline method - How do I write The Economist-style headlines? I think that what I will try do is search for idioms related to subjects of money, business etc. and then attempt, as you say, to achieve the least forced pun which seems to equal the most witty headline. I hope that what I've said in my comment here may also help other writers with a way of working. |

Headline method - How do I write The Economist-style headlines? That was wonderful advice and thank you; as you say some puns just seem to line up better than others do and I also try to understand what makes it so. What I've gathered so far is that the writers for The Economist work find famous phrases or idioms that require only the slightest of bending to align to The Economist positioning which is, if you read the magazine, you have to be an extremely smart and successful person in the business world. |
