comment Offer to publish - should you accept or wait?
The questioner did mention that the publisher was going to print the book.

comment Are my metaphors/similes effective?
I'm not putting this as an answer because it's not specific to your examples; but I'd recommend the best way to improving your technique is to read authors you enjoy very carefully, not for enjoying the text this time around but analytically. How do they treat metaphor? Then look back at your own work. How does it fall short? I'd say the only authentic answers to this kind of question are the ones you discover yourself. Your judgement of what works and what does not work in your own writing is the best tool to develop; and you will only acquire it by reading as a writer (analytically).

comment think, I think, I don't think
Second that. Everything you write is what you think, else you wouldn't be writing it! Readers can make up their minds about whether they agree. If there's a particular reason you need readers to know that this your opinion (e.g. if you're taking a somewhat controversial position) then you need to state that clearly and explain your reasons - not just 'I think'.

comment Not happy with format of self-published book. How to proceed?
Do you mean, 'surely the printers understand...' ? When you're self-publishing you are the publisher. You certainly shouldn't depend on my advice (or anyone else's) as to the quality of the book. You need to find samples of the printer's work and hold them in your hands and see what you think yourself: apart from things like robustness, it's a subjective judgement.

comment Structure for computer science research paper
Maura's answer below is correct. No matter how detailed your design is, you won't get into questions of the actual technologies used, etc. Whereas implementation is exactly that. But I don't think this is a writing question, really; it's a software development question.

comment What type of writing would this fall under?
Not sure if this is actually a stream of consciousness as that implies a (radically) subjective voice, whereas the perspective in this piece is omniscient.

comment What's a good market for experimental novellas?
Thanks for your response, Grevor. I'm not interested in self-publishing, as I need the perspective of an editor's outside eye. In any case, rejection letters are character-building :)

comment What's a good market for experimental novellas?
Thanks for your comment. But 'how to identify markets' isn't a question I want answered. So I've edited it to a more generic question that asks for recommendations of markets for experimental novellas. Is that better?

I should point out that I know about Duotrope, Writers & Artists, Poets & Writers, etc. I'm hoping for recommendations of actual publishers.

I use coloured dots for the main characters. Feels like I am back at primary school - or Blue Peter :)

comment Writing from the middle
That's fine: you have a different experience and a different opinion. 'Every single writer' is a stretch, and your quote excises my parenthetical hedge ('at least, in my experience'). But I shouldn't quibble: you're right, the spirit of my answer is prescriptive. I won't edit it. I do think the method I use is better (not more efficacious: better aesthetic practise) than planning it out in advance. Now, I may be wrong; but it is my opinion, and I don't like to mince words. Better many points of view clearly stated than bland 'horses for courses'. Let a thousand flowers bloom, and all that! :)
