Also, saying "One thing for sure: she wasn't asleep," isn't correct either. First, that is an incorrect use of a colon. Colons are typically used to prefix a listing of items. I think you meant to use a semi-colon (;). Secondly, the first part of the sentence should be "One thing [was] for sure." On the whole, I liked this though!
