I've recently completed my MSc Computer Science from a UK institution, and have moved back to the US to begin work. I write in my spare time, enjoy cooking, and apparently am addicted to signing up for SE sites :).

Is this excerpt's style too matter-of-fact? I put "even" because she was the one most likely to attempt to deny it, given she has the most stake in it. If she has to admit it, then any third party can't really argue. Is that not the best way to show that? |

Is this excerpt's style too matter-of-fact? I definitely agree with you on "gruff" being poor choice of words, sarcastic as you are about it. The question becomes how to really show the uncle's character without making the already long snippit even longer? I thought I could do it with the facial description, after you already care since you know he's in the story now. Other ideas? |

Is this excerpt's style too matter-of-fact? yeah, I wasn't sure what to put though. That look better? |

Why shouldn't I use a pen name? @Standback It occurs to me that some of the most famous pennames were male names used for female authors. If they can disguise their gender, I'd think I could manage to disguise my race until I'm ready to reveal my real name. |

Why shouldn't I use a pen name? I suspect Google+ will be the primary link between my screenname and my real name in the future. I don't make a big deal out of separating the two online - instead, I don't do things under my screenname that I wouldn't want people who know me offline to know about. |

Why shouldn't I use a pen name? @Standback But that's the problem. The reason I want to use a penname is that Yami feels more like my name than any shortening or expansion of my real name. If I'm not using that, I might as well use my real name :/ I wish I hadn't been such a weeaboo as a teenager, then I wouldn't be in this mess, but I can't go back in time and change that now. |

Why shouldn't I use a pen name? Haha! I've considered changing my name but I don't match the ethnicity of my screen name so I'll probably just keep using my real name offline. |

Author's notes: yay or nay? A book series I very much enjoy has the bad habit of putting notes in the front. I don't particularly care what music "inspired" the book; if I was going to listen along, I'd be able to find the information just as easily in the back, and it delays me getting to the actual story. |

How to juggle work and NaNoWriMo? I work in CompSci, it's a security risk for me to bring in my own laptop. But I could grab a notebook and type the entry up later I suppose. |
