comment Any suggestions to improve these three introductory paragraphs of a novel I'm writing (e.g. writing style, description and flow)?
I wanted to make a couple of comments. First of all, kudos to you for attempting to write in any language that is not your native tongue. That is a major undertaking and one that few of us would attempt. Secondly, I would suggest that since English is not your native language, it would be to your benefit to hire an editor to review your work once it is completed. This would help you to identify the types of changes suggested below. You would also benefit from a critique group or a group of beta readers who could give you advice before sending it to an editor.

comment How do you develop a strong female character?
I often find, especially in fantasy novels, that female characters tend to be largely thrown in as an afterthought and relegated to supporting roles. I was wondering what steps could be taken to make a female character more integral to a story and what characteristics would be best to focus on for a reader to accept that the female character has a more prominent role in the story.

comment Best time to release a new novel?
I saw somewhere that e-book sales usually take off after Christmas as a result of people who received e-book readers as gifts looking for new content. I suppose the key is to make sure your book can be found when they start looking!

comment Royalties - how to calculate author's take from the end-price?
You also need to take into consideration whether or not you have to pay an agent. If you have an agent who is entitled to a cut, then that will reduce the true royalty that you end up seeing in the end.

comment Where is a good place to find beta readers?
CritiqueCircle is very similar, but they are a good source for finding readers who will give you honest feedback and constructive criticism.

comment Do writing goals really work--what are the pros and cons?
I don't have an issue with a question or answer being closed as long as it goes through an open discussion like this. That is the whole point of the site, after all. However, what I don't approve of is when an answer gets deleted without any discussion, which happened to me on a different question.
