Will science fiction as a genre ever go the way of the western? Subgenres definitely decline. They may be superseded by events (first trip to the Moon) or simply fall out of favor (hollow-Earth). |

Audio version of copyrighted written material @Malvolio: Yer right, the danger is trivial -- more likely than being hit by a meteorite, but not much. (Of course, IANAL, and my free advice may be worth less than you paid for it.) |

Audio version of copyrighted written material A small correction: the KJV is out of copyright almost everywhere. It's under perpetual copyright in the UK, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… |

How do I better handle my nameless main character when trying to retain mystery? +1 on first person, and on showing more of your character's thoughts and feelings. There are a couple of mystery series that do a great job of presenting unnamed protagonists. You might want to check out Hammet's classic "The Continental Op" and Pronzini's very good "Nameless Detective" series. |

Is the iPad a convenient medium for writing work? I'm sorry I was unclear. I meant that Stross said the iPad was a good tool if (and only if) you have an external keyboard. I've recast my answer to make that clearer, and added more about his other iPad experiences. |

Is the iPad a convenient medium for writing work? Sure it does the main problem with writing on the iPad is the onscreen keyboard: It provides no tactile feedback and takes up half the screen. Stross evaluated most of the the options for serious text input. |
