comment I'm afraid of [accidental] plagiarism
Thanks for your comments, I'll follow your advice. One more question though - you say "the legal team would double check this". I had the impression that if you sold a screenplay, part of the contract would say "this is my original work, yada yada" and it would be your problem if someone would sue over the script. So it's the studio's responsibility after they buy it?

That's an interesting perspective, and you're completely right. I've only recently started writing, so I'm happy to write "something that works" and nothing more - even if it's the same alien invasion story Hollywood always makes. They always make it because it works :) I have no delusions of being an auteur at this point.

comment Plain translation or cultural adaptation?
The point would be getting the interest of an english speaking agent or publisher.

Not yet, but that's the plan if my current attempts end nowhere, as have the previous ones.

comment How do I create a book cover for my self-published book for under $500?
I was considering 99Designs. Why was this answer downvoted? Anyone had bad experiences with them?

Fair enough (and here I add "blah blah blah" to make the comment long enough to post)

comment What does/would it mean to code a novel?
I completely disagree. I took three years to write my first novel, two of which I spent working on the story and the structure (but not writing a single word of the text). I'm pretty sure that counts as "designing" the novel :)

comment 1st person story, but the main character will die in the end and some of the story needs to be told after his death. How to solve this problem?
Mods, could you please explain why my answer was turned into a comment on the basis of "not being an actual answer"? Was it because I wrote "Can you switch to 3rd person in an epilogue?" instead of "Consider switching to 3rd person in an epilogue, if applies to your case"? I have a big WTF sign over my head right now.

Can you switch to 3rd person in an epilogue?

comment Using dashes in writing dialogue
If you write in English, by all means. If you write in Spanish (as I do), quote marks would make readers' eyes bleed :) It's a matter of habit and I respect that; if/when I make an English translation, it will definitely use quotes.

- Yep, that would be it, - I replied.

comment How applicable are screenwriting ideas to novels?
You're absolutely correct, of course; these 35K words cover roughly half of the 12-page outline I spent two years planning carefully, so that thing may be half a novel. On an unrelated topic, I'm sure it would be truly enlightening to know your thoughts about the question I posed above, should you be so kind to share them.

comment Problems with character development?
I see your point, but I'd say it's about what happens to people and how people react, otherwise what I'd have is a nice set of interesting biographies :) I tend to think that it's the structure that can provide ways for the characters to be interesting (unusual situations, plot twists,...)

That's interesting advice, thanks. But I guess that's not the main problem I have - it's that they sort of speak and think the same. I'll have to make some of them more irrational and impulsive :)

Thanks for the editing. Sorry, I don't have anything online - and it's in Spanish to begin with :(
