comment Can anyone think of books that contain two separate stories or two very different perspectives on the same story being told together?
The Real Story by Stephen R. Donaldson, as well as the two trilogies of his featuring Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever are kind of like this, but structured differently than you describe. The final episode of Babylon 5 is also something like that, if I recall correctly.

comment I'm scared that my story is plagiarizing another story
Unless you are copying and pasting passage directly into your own story, I wouldn't worry about it.

comment How to write a homosexual character, whose homosexuality isn't the point of the story?
I differentiate in the sense that pansexual defers to the idea that gender identity is a spectrum whereas bisexual implies that gender identity is binary.

Looks like there is good reason to be suspicious: sfwa.org/other-resources/for-authors/writer-beware/alerts/#Star

raises eyebrow So they are gambling on your success by gaining rights to your story and promoting it poorly? Seems suspicious that they don't mention what happens if someone actually buys your book.

I do this all the time in my stories. Sometimes my characters are straight, sometimes they are gay, sometimes they are pansexual. It's never the point of the story, it just happens to be whoever they are into.

You might consider writing a meaningful quote in your native language and then explaining it when you give the gift.

comment Two perspectives in a non-fiction book
I'm not clear on what your view as her mother brings to the story. You've described this as non-fiction. What kind of story are you trying to tell? Is it some kind of instructional guide?

comment Works of literature that are (ostensibly) about the act of writing
@One The Dark Half was also about his experiences as a writer, based on a nightmare he had following putting the Bachman pseudonym to rest.

comment I'm shy to let my friends read my books
You might benefit from presenting work as a draft or letting friends read something that doesn't seem as important first. It's also important to realize that your skills won't improve if you never get feedback. You can't learn to do better if you never fail, because you'll never know what mistakes you are making.

Are you interested in having people read your work? There's no requirement that you have to let anyone read what you write.
