How to separate scenes in a chapter? Thanks Neil, you have been the 1st to mention that using just white space may not work with Ebooks, as we cannot know how the page will be layed |

Should cliffhangers be used in every chapter? Lauren, I think its pretty clear what a cliffhanger is. From Wikipedia: A cliffhanger or cliffhanger ending is a plot device in fiction which features a main character in a precarious or difficult dilemma, or confronted with a shocking revelation at the end of an episode of serialized fiction. How is deciding whether to get a pizza a cliffhanger? |

Can a literary agent be hired? @porton, as John says, you need to build a platform. This takes time. You need to be seen as an expert in your field, which means you have to write interesting blogs, take part in forums etc. If people trust you, they might buy your book. But even that is not guaranteed, as I follow many blogs, yet haven't bought books from most of them. |

Can a literary agent be hired? +1 for the Dean link. Every author should at least read it, even if they don't agree with it. |

Would a paid-for review from Kirkus give me real insight into quality of my manuscript? In a way, I'm not surprised. The whole thing sounds very suspicious to me- an easy way to help part novices from their money. Caveat Emptor. |

Should I use different pen names for different audiences (non-fiction)? Agree. 3 names = 3 different brands, different websites etc. Do you really want to create all that work for yourself? |

Self publishing: Do I still need to follow the arbitrary word count limits? Thanks Steve. Amazon has a new feature, where they give an estimated page count for e-books. I guess we writers should give the word count in the description as well |
