What are some ways to get to know your characters? One thing I'd recommend is the Big Five or Five Factor Model in lieu of MBTI. FFM is considered to be more scientifically valid, whereas MBTI is based on Jung; Jung, Freud, and other psychoanalysts have been largely discredited. |

How to keep the reader engaged throughout the novel? Have you heard of Donald Maass's book "Writing the Breakout Novel?" He discusses the notion of what he calls microtension, or "tension on every page." It sounded reasonable to me. |
