I'm trying to become less dependent of cellphones by carrying a notebook instead. I then checked out moleskine notebooks but the price is too high for me. I'm willing to spend about 8 dollars. The notebook itself doesn't have to be elaborate but easy to carry. I tried spiral notebooks yet I never liked holding it. Writeblok and Journal Blank look good, does anyone else have any recommendations?

I always carry one of these in my pocket: Writersblok Small Notebook
They're fairly cheap, small enough to fit snugly in a pocket, and thin enough to sit on. They also come in other sizes, and with squared or dotted pages. They're nothing fancy and look pretty flimsy, but I've been using the same one for about 5 months now and it's still in decent shape despite living in my back pocket.
They aren't particularly fancy by any means, but I extensively use college-ruled composition notebooks for note taking and writing, both at work and while traveling. They're cheap, light, and very portable in terms of size.
Anything like this basically does the trick: http://www.amazon.com/Mead-Composition-100-Count-College-09932/dp/B000GP16R0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319051583&sr=8-1
Edit: If you're looking for something more pocket sized then there is always the smaller versions like this: http://www.amazon.com/Carolina-Pad-Marble-Composition-90770/dp/B002PU9USG/ref=sr_1_15?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1319054070&sr=1-15
